If you find a store in your neighborhood that carries Tillamook products you should check out their ice cream section the next time you go shopping. If you find a Tillamook-friendly store, you have a shot at getting the huckleberry ice cream, especially if you live anywhere west of the Mississippi but even that is not a guarantee.

Tillamook’s Website has a “where to buy” page that you can use to look up stores in your local zip code that carry their products. But the way the food industry works you may not be able to get the products you want into your stores. If you want to request huckleberry ice cream in your local store, Tillamook helps you do so.

Unfortunately, Blue Bunny is not (yet) a national brand and it’s hard to say that they or Tillamook could scale up huckleberry ice cream production enough to meet national demand for the product. If you live in or near Iowa, basically any region served by Wells Enterprises, their Blue Bunny brand Huckleberry ice cream may be sold in a local store or restaurant. Tillamook ice cream is sold across the country but they limit distribution of their huckleberry ice cream to states where huckleberries are local favorites. Even Wal-mart may have it in their frozen treats section sometimes. If you are traveling through the Northwest and want to take some huckleberry ice cream home with you then you can usually find it on sale at stores like Fred Meyer, Safeway, and Rosauer’s. And blueberry ice cream is delicious but it is no substitute for huckleberry ice cream. Sure, if you don’t live in the Pacific Northwest (Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and Montana) then you have to settle for blueberry ice cream. If I had to guess, I'd imagine that it has something to do with skim milk being the second ingredient listed, which has the highest water content of milk varieties.but that's just my two cents. If you have ever tasted huckleberry ice cream you know there is nothing else like it.

It wasn't the icy texture that you get when a pint has clearly been thawed and re-frozen - it was more subtle than that, but it still wasn't very appealing to me. I found this ice cream to be the least creamy of the bunch, and the texture was borderline icy. And perhaps the most puzzling to me was the texture. The sweetness level? Also off! I don't love an overly-sweet dessert, but I'd say this one wasn't sweet enough. In terms of the vanilla flavor, it was hardly there. Like, so hard I had to chew it - and remember, I took all of these ice creams out of the fridge at the same time to let them thaw a bit. For a brand known for their rich and creamy vanilla ice cream (heck, I've heard lots of people swear that their vanilla is the best vanilla!), I found it to be aggressively hard. On top of the seriously disappointing cookie situation, I found the ice cream itself to be totally lackluster. Let's be real, if they're generous with their chocolate cookies, they're probably not going to rip you off on their cookie dough or cake batter or chocolate chips. To that end, I concluded that the individual flavors of the various elements would be easy to distinguish from one another, and I also realized that cookies 'n' cream would likely be a great barometer for how much each brand gives you when it comes to the mix-ins. The Oreo-adjacent chocolate cookies are also a relatively straightforward mix-in - no swirls of anything, and nothing complicated.

Other products I've taste-tested, like marinara sauce and boxed mac 'n' cheese, are pretty limited in their flavor offerings.but ice cream flavors? The limit does not exist. While pondering ice cream flavors to test, I struggled more than I usually do.
